Dr. Raman Kumar is an ecologist who studies how environmental changes caused by human activities affect birds. He has been studying woodpeckers of the Sal forests in Uttarakhand for more than 15 years.
Raman is closely involved in citizen science programmes that encourage ordinary people, particularly students, to take on the role of scientists by observing and monitoring nature. He and his colleagues at Nature Science Initiative have been working to create awareness about nature among people through public nature walks, workshops, and awareness material.
